Journey

Upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, you’ll be warmly greeted by our friendly tour guide and transferred to your hotel in the heart of Hanoi. Standard check-in time is from 14:00 (early check-in is subject to availability).

This afternoon, ease into your photography adventure with a warm-up photo walk through the iconic Hanoi Old Quarter. Capture the vibrant street scenes, colonial-era architecture, and the hustle and bustle of daily life. Then, head to the historic Long Bien Bridge, a masterpiece of French engineering offering dramatic perspectives and local life glimpses ideal for street and travel photography.

Overnight in Hanoi.

Depart Hanoi around 08:00 with your driver and tour guide for a scenic drive to Ha Long Bay. En route, stop at Dong Trieu Pottery Village, where you can photograph skilled artisans at work and capture the rustic charm of this traditional craft village.

Upon arrival in Ha Long, enjoy lunch before beginning your afternoon exploration of the bay’s unique floating villages. This is a fantastic opportunity to capture the serene beauty of Halong’s emerald waters, limestone karsts, and daily life on the water. From local boats gliding across the calm bay to fishing families tending to their nets, the floating villages offer a window into a peaceful, slow-paced lifestyle.

Optional activities include: Sailing around the floating homes; Casting fishing nets with local fishermen; Shrimping or fishing the traditional way; or Tasting fresh seafood right from the source.

Overnight in Ha Long.

After breakfast, depart for Binh Lieu, a hidden gem often referred to as a “miniature Sapa.” Blessed with a mild climate year-round and rich natural landscapes, Binh Lieu is a paradise for photographers seeking authenticity and cultural depth. This region is home to over 96% ethnic minorities, including the Tay, Dao, San Chi, Kinh, and Hoa. A highlight of your visit will be photographing the Dao Thanh Phan, a distinctive branch of the Dao ethnic group known for their vibrant red-themed costumes and unique long bamboo hats. These traditional outfits, adorned with intricate motifs, offer striking portrait opportunities, especially in natural settings.

You’ll also visit traditional Dao Thanh Phan houses, built from earth with yin-yang tile roofs. These homes are strategically located in elevated, sheltered areas near water sources—an architectural reflection of harmony with nature and functionality in highland life.

In the afternoon, we continue our journey to Lang Son, arriving in the early evening.

Overnight in Lang Son.

After breakfast, journey through the scenic northern highlands toward one of Vietnam’s natural wonders — Ban Gioc Waterfall. Set along the Quay Son River and surrounded by dramatic karst mountains, Ban Gioc cascades from a height of 30 meters, creating a breathtaking display of power and beauty. Often hailed as the most beautiful waterfall in Southeast Asia, this iconic site offers magnificent panoramic views and powerful photo opportunities, especially when mist and rainbows rise from the falls.

Next, venture to the serene Phong Nam Valley, a hidden treasure known for its lush rice terraces, gentle rivers, limestone mountains, and peaceful villages. Here, you’ll be immersed in postcard-perfect landscapes and experience complete tranquility — ideal for landscape photography and moments of reflection. Beyond the scenery, take time to visit local Tay ethnic villages, where you’ll witness traditional rural life shaped by farming and forestry. The villagers live in harmony with nature, and their daily rhythm is slow, peaceful, and rich in culture — offering meaningful interactions and compelling portraits.

In the late afternoon, move towards Trung Khanh in Cao Bang.

Overnight in Trung Khanh.

Rise early and set off toward Nui Thung, also known as Angel Eye Mountain—a geological wonder named after the massive, naturally formed hole at its center. This dramatic arch, measuring nearly 50 meters in diameter, creates the illusion of a giant eye gazing over the landscape, offering a truly unique and photogenic sight. As you drive through the surrounding valley, you’ll be treated to postcard scenes of dense jungle, towering limestone mountains, ethnic minority villages, and serene rice paddies where water buffalo graze lazily. It’s the perfect setting for capturing rural Vietnam in its most authentic and untouched form.

Enjoy a relaxing walk around the area to photograph the mountain from multiple angles and soak in the tranquility of this hidden gem.

In the afternoon, continue your journey to Cao Bang, arriving by evening.

Overnight in Cao Bang.

This morning, journey deeper into Vietnam’s remote highlands as we travel from Cao Bang to Bao Lac, a region known for its untouched ethnic diversity, breathtaking mountain landscapes, and rich cultural heritage. This area is home to one of Vietnam’s most distinctive ethnic groups — the Lolo people, who migrated centuries ago from Yunnan, China. Their stilted wooden houses are scattered across the mountainsides, and their vibrant traditions remain vividly alive.

In particular, we’ll visit Khuoi Khon Village, perched high in the mountains about 5 km from the main road. This remote village offers stunning panoramic views and a unique opportunity to interact with the Lolo community. The women’s traditional attire, typically a black tunic adorned with colorful embroidered patterns and complemented with silver or gold jewelry, is striking and provides rich photographic moments.

This cultural encounter allows for a deeper understanding of the Lolo’s heritage, lifestyle, and resilience amid the mountains they call home.

Overnight in Bao Lac.

Today, embark on one of the most scenic and culturally rich journeys in Vietnam’s far north, traveling from Bao Lac to Meo Vac, Ma Pi Leng Pass, and Dong Van — the heart of Ha Giang province. This untouched region stuns visitors with its limestone peaks, black granite ridges (known locally as “stone forests”), deep canyons, and awe-inspiring panoramas.

After breakfast, head toward Meo Vac, where, if it’s a Sunday, you’ll witness the vibrant energy of the Meo Vac Market — the largest and most colorful in the province. This is where ethnic minorities, including the Black Hmong, Tay, Dao, and others, gather in traditional attire to trade livestock, handicrafts, textiles, and produce. The market is not just for commerce — it’s a weekly cultural celebration filled with laughter, vibrant fabrics, homemade corn wine, and joyful chatter. Children play around jewelry stalls while adults socialize over drinks — even in the early morning hours.

From Meo Vac, drive along the jaw-dropping Ma Pi Leng Pass, hailed as Vietnam’s most spectacular mountain road. Winding above the emerald Nho Que River, this legendary stretch of the QL4C “Happiness Road” offers unmatched views of towering cliffs and sweeping valleys.

Continue to Dong Van, where a visit to the Dong Van Old Quarter reveals a historic village with preserved stone houses and a timeless mountain-town charm. If time permits, consider extending the adventure to the Lung Cu Flag Tower, a patriotic symbol located at the northernmost tip of Vietnam near the Chinese border.

Overnight in Dong Van.

Start your morning immersed in the rugged beauty of Dong Van, nestled in the heart of Vietnam’s northeastern highlands. Surrounded by jagged limestone peaks and deep valleys, Dong Van is more than a visual masterpiece — it’s a living cultural landscape. This region is home to ethnic communities such as the H’mong, Lo Lo, and Tay, who have shaped and preserved their traditional ways of life for generations. Spend the morning engaging with the local people, capturing authentic portraits and moments that reflect their daily routines, ancient traditions, and resilient spirit.

Dong Van offers opportunities to witness traditional festivals, sample unique highland cuisine, and hear folkloric tales that echo through time. The architectural charm of their stone houses and the vibrant expressions of their culture make this a highlight for any cultural or photography enthusiast.

In the afternoon, continue your scenic journey through the mountains as you travel to Ha Giang, the gateway city to Vietnam’s northern frontier.

Overnight in Ha Giang.

Set out on a stunning drive through the mountainous landscape to Ban Phung Village, one of the most captivating and lesser-known destinations in Ha Giang province. Prepare to be mesmerized by the vertiginous rice terraces that climb steeply up the mountainsides like stairways to the sky — a breathtaking display of both human ingenuity and natural harmony.

In harvest season, Ban Phung transforms into a golden wonderland, with the terraced fields glowing in hues of amber under the soft afternoon sun. Clouds drift at eye level, casting a dreamlike veil over the valley and painting the village with layers of serenity. This scene is a photographer’s paradise — an opportunity to capture the ethereal light, golden textures, and everyday life of the ethnic minorities who call this highland home.

In the late afternoon, continue to Hoang Su Phi, home to some of Vietnam’s most iconic terraced rice fields and tranquil nature retreats. Check in and unwind at the Panhou Retreat, an eco-lodge nestled in lush greenery — the perfect place to reflect on the day’s magic.

Overnight at Panhou Retreat in Hoang Su Phi.

Rise early to capture the first light of dawn as it spills across the terraced fields of Hoang Su Phi, bathing the landscape in a soft golden hue. This quiet morning is a precious chance to photograph the interplay of mist, light, and layered rice paddies, creating ethereal compositions that tell the story of Vietnam’s highland beauty.

After breakfast, begin the scenic return journey to Noi Bai International Airport. Enjoy free time at leisure to reflect on your unforgettable photographic journey through Vietnam—its landscapes, people, and enduring traditions.

Goodbye—and see you again soon!
