Journey

Upon your arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, you’ll be warmly greeted by our professional tour guide and private driver from Focus X Travel. Enjoy a comfortable transfer to your hotel in the city center for check-in.

After a short tour briefing, take the rest of the day to relax and recover from your flight. You may choose to stroll through the nearby streets for your first glimpse of Hanoi’s charming Old Quarter, where the sounds of motorbikes, street vendors, and temple bells blend into an unforgettable symphony of life.

Overnight in Hanoi.

Start early in the morning. Your tour guide and driver will meet you at your hotel and begin the scenic around 5-6 hour drive to Sapa, winding through lush valleys and verdant hills. Along the way, enjoy a coffee break and a local-style lunch at a countryside restaurant.

Upon arrival in Sapa, check in to your hotel and take a short rest before the afternoon’s adventure. Your guide will then take you to visit the Silver Waterfall, cascading powerfully down the mountainside, and the nearby Heaven Gate, where breathtaking panoramas of cloud-draped peaks and terraced valleys await.

As the golden light of late afternoon sets in, prepare for your first sunset photo session — a perfect introduction to Sapa’s mystical beauty. Return to town for some free time to wander the charming streets, enjoy a café with a mountain view, or explore Sapa’s night market.

Overnight in Sapa.

Today promises one of the most memorable highlights of your journey. Wake up early to capture the first light over the spectacular Muong Hoa Valley — a sweeping landscape of misty mountains, emerald rice terraces, and charming ethnic villages.

After your sunrise photo session, your guide and driver will take you to the best vantage points along the valley, where the terraced fields unfold like a green staircase to the sky. You’ll visit small H’mong and Dao villages, meeting friendly locals in their colorful attire and witnessing daily life amidst the natural beauty of the highlands — perfect for authentic portrait and lifestyle photography.

Breakfast and lunch will be arranged flexibly to suit the best light conditions for shooting. As evening falls, settle into a traditional homestay nestled in the heart of the valley, where you’ll enjoy a home-cooked dinner and a peaceful night surrounded by nature’s serenity.

Overnight at a homestay in Muong Hoa Valley.

After breakfast, depart from Sapa and enjoy a scenic drive through mountain roads toward Bac Ha, a colorful highland town known for its vibrant ethnic markets and rich cultural traditions.

If today is Sunday, you are in for a special experience at the Bac Ha Market, one of the most famous and photogenic ethnic markets in Northern Vietnam. Here, diverse hill tribes such as the Flower H’mong, Phu La, Black Dao, Tay, and Nung gather to trade handmade crafts, livestock, and traditional goods. The market bursts with color and life — a paradise for photographers seeking authentic cultural portraits and bustling scenes.

(Note: If this day falls on a Tuesday, you’ll visit the Coc Ly Market instead; if it’s Saturday, you’ll explore Nam Cang village for photography before overnighting in Bac Ha to visit the Sunday market.)

In the afternoon, visit the historic H’mong King’s Palace, a fascinating remnant of colonial-era history, and stroll through Ban Pho Village, home of the Flower H’mong people, where daily life unfolds amidst cornfields and mountain vistas.

Overnight in Bac Ha.

After breakfast, leave Bac Ha behind and journey deeper into the northern highlands toward Hoang Su Phi, a hidden gem of Ha Giang Province. This region is home to some of Vietnam’s most magnificent terraced rice fields, recognized as a National Heritage Site for their breathtaking beauty and cultural importance.

The drive offers countless photo opportunities, with winding mountain passes, misty valleys, and tranquil rural life along the way. Stop to visit Phung Village, Nam Ty, and Ban Luoc — the most photogenic spots in the area, where the terraces ripple down the hillsides in dazzling layers of green and gold.

Continue to Nam Hong Village, home to the Red Dao ethnic minority, where you’ll stay overnight in a charming mountain bungalow overlooking a panorama of rice terraces, drifting clouds, and lush peaks.

Enjoy a delicious home-cooked dinner and the peaceful rhythm of village life under the starlit sky.

Dinner and overnight in Nam Hong.

After breakfast, say farewell to Nam Hong’s peaceful terraces as you journey deeper into the wild and dramatic landscapes of Ha Giang Province. Stop briefly in Ha Giang City before heading north toward Quan Ba Heaven Gate, a spectacular mountain pass often shrouded in clouds. Known as the “Heaven’s Gate of the North,” this viewpoint marks the start of the legendary Happiness Road, winding through Vietnam’s most awe-inspiring terrain.

Enjoy a short walk to admire the breathtaking view of the “Fairy Twin Mountains”, symbols of Quan Ba’s natural charm. If time allows, you’ll also visit Nam Dam Village, home to the Dao ethnic people, to learn about their daily life and traditional houses made of clay and wood.

Continue driving along what is often called Vietnam’s most scenic road, entering the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, a UNESCO-recognized landscape of rugged limestone peaks and deep valleys. Along the way, stop for photos at the Pho Cao slope, the iconic “Pao’s House” in Lung Cam Cultural Village, and the Vuong Palace, once home to the H’mong royal family — a masterpiece of stone architecture and history.

Arrive in Dong Van Town in the late afternoon. Enjoy some free time to explore the ancient streets or simply relax in the mountain atmosphere.

Overnight in Dong Van.

Today marks the most breathtaking highlight of your Ha Giang adventure — a day filled with awe-inspiring landscapes and unforgettable photo opportunities.

After breakfast, take a short 10-minute drive from Dong Van to Ta Lang Village, where you’ll hop on a local “xe ôm” (motorbike taxi) for a scenic 20-minute ride down to the pier of the Nho Que River. Nestled deep within the towering limestone mountains of northern Vietnam, this emerald-green river winds gracefully through the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, carving one of the most dramatic gorges in Southeast Asia.

Enjoy a one-hour boat trip along the tranquil river to the Tu San Canyon — often called the deepest gorge in Vietnam. The turquoise water contrasts vividly with the gray cliffs and lush green forest, creating surreal reflections that make every photograph a masterpiece. The best season to capture the Nho Que’s color and beauty is October to March, especially when the Bombax ceiba (red silk-cotton) flowers bloom, painting the cliffs with fiery bursts of red.

Return to Dong Van for lunch before heading toward the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of Vietnam’s most scenic and exhilarating mountain routes. Stop at the Ma Pi Leng Museum, then begin a 1–2 hour trek along trails hugging the cliffs, offering astonishing views of the Nho Que River meandering far below.

This is a paradise for landscape photographers — misty peaks, winding roads, ethnic children playing on the slopes, and H’mong women tending their crops on impossibly steep terraces. For those unafraid of heights, a short climb rewards you with the most stunning panoramic viewpoint in Ha Giang.

After the trek, return to Dong Van for a well-deserved rest.

Overnight in Dong Van.

After breakfast, we bid farewell to Dong Van and set off on a scenic drive toward Cao Bang, traveling along one of Northern Vietnam’s most picturesque mountain routes via Meo Vac and Bao Lac. This journey offers countless opportunities to pause for photo stops or short visits to local ethnic villages, where you can witness the daily life of hill tribe communities.

We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant along the way before continuing to Pac Bo Cave, a place of great historical significance. It was here that President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked for seven weeks during February and March of 1941 after returning from 30 years in exile. Today, Pac Bo stands as a revered national heritage site, surrounded by serene landscapes of limestone mountains, clear streams, and lush greenery.

Arrive in Cao Bang City by late afternoon.
Overnight in Cao Bang.

After breakfast, we depart for the stunning Ban Gioc Waterfall, renowned as Vietnam’s most beautiful natural cascade and one of the largest border waterfalls in Asia. The drive itself is a scenic highlight, winding through valleys and limestone mountains that define the charm of Cao Bang Province.

Along the way, we make several enriching stops:

  • Ma Phuc Pass – a breathtaking mountain pass offering panoramic views of limestone karsts and terraced fields.
  • Phia Thap Incense-Making Village – where you’ll meet local Nung artisans handcrafting traditional incense sticks using centuries-old techniques.
  • Pac Rang Forging Village – famous for its blacksmiths who skillfully forge agricultural tools by hand.
  • Ngoc Con and Phong Nam Valleys – two of the most photogenic landscapes in Northern Vietnam. These tranquil rural scenes of rice paddies, stilt houses, and gentle rivers are favorite spots for Vietnamese photographers. Here, you’ll have a chance to encounter the Tay and Nung ethnic minorities working in the fields or tending to their livestock.

Arrive at Ban Gioc Waterfall in the afternoon and enjoy your free time to explore this magnificent natural wonder — where emerald waters tumble down tiered limestone cliffs, forming a picturesque scene straight out of a painting.

Dinner on your own.
Overnight in Ban Gioc.

Start your morning with an early walk to revisit Ban Gioc Waterfall, where the soft light of dawn casts a magical glow over the misty cascades — a perfect time for tranquil moments and stunning photos.

After breakfast and hotel check-out (around 8:00 am), we journey to discover the fascinating Nguom Ngao Cave, a geological masterpiece formed around 300 million years ago. In the Tay language, Nguom Ngao means “the cave of tigers,” named after local legends describing the roaring sounds of underground streams that echo like tigers’ growls. Inside, marvel at the spectacular formations of stalactites and stalagmites — nature’s own sculptures — shimmering under soft lights.

Continue the scenic drive to Ba Be Lake, located in Ba Be National Park and known as Vietnam’s largest natural freshwater lake. Nestled among limestone mountains, dense forests, and small islands, Ba Be is often described as a watercolor painting come to life — serene, green, and timeless.

Upon arrival, enjoy a leisurely walk around Pac Ngoi Village, home to the Tay ethnic minority. Here, you’ll experience authentic rural life with traditional stilt houses by the lake and welcoming smiles from the locals.

Dinner and overnight at a homestay in Pac Ngoi village, offering a warm and peaceful lakeside atmosphere.

After breakfast, embark on a five-hour boat trip to fully experience the tranquility of Ba Be Lake and its surrounding National Park. Glide across emerald waters fringed by lush limestone cliffs, visit hidden caves, and witness the serene daily life of the local Tay people along the lakeshore. The peaceful scenery and reflections on the calm surface make this an unforgettable experience — and a perfect finale to your northern Vietnam adventure.

After the cruise, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before we begin the scenic drive back to Hanoi. On arrival, our driver and guide will drop you off at Noi Bai International Airport for your onward flight, or at your hotel in Hanoi if you plan to extend your stay.

This journey is a signature Focus X Travel experience, crafted from years of exploration and passion for authentic northern Vietnam. Every stop has been carefully selected to ensure you see not just the beauty of the land, but also its spirit and people.

Thank you for traveling with Focus X Travel— we hope to welcome you again on your next adventure!
