Cycling through Vietnam is not simply a journey between destinations—it is a journey into the soul of the country. Designed in the true Focus X Travel spirit, this epic Vietnam Tour by Bike blends active exploration with cultural elegance, natural beauty, and thoughtful comfort.

Pedaling at a relaxed, rewarding pace, you will traverse an astonishing variety of landscapes: ancient capitals wrapped in limestone karsts, emerald rice paddies, misty Central Highlands, dramatic coastal passes, and the timeless waterways of the Mekong Delta. With high-quality geared bicycles, a professional support team, and a backup vehicle throughout, the journey is both adventurous and reassuring.

Journey

Welcome to Vietnam. Upon arrival in Hanoi, a city where centuries-old temples sit beside leafy boulevards and French colonial architecture, you are transferred to your hotel. Meet your Focus X Travel guide for a comprehensive tour briefing, bike fitting, and safety orientation. The remainder of the day is free to relax or explore the Old Quarter at your own pace, and sample Vietnamese classics like Pho and Egg coffee.

Overnight in Hanoi

Travel south to Kenh Ga, a tranquil river village famous for its floating houses and limestone scenery. Here, glide through tranquil waterways reflecting limestone karsts, then begin your first cycling leg through peaceful farmland toward Tam Coc, part of the Tràng An Scenic Landscape Complex — a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its extraordinary limestone peaks and waterway networks.

Pedal to Thai Vi Temple and the rock-carved Bich Dong Pagoda, a sacred complex nestled into the hillside with panoramic valley views. Enjoy an optional sampan ride among the karst peaks and rice paddies at sunset.

Overnight in Ninh Binh

Transfer south to Ha Long Bay, another UNESCO highlight where vertical limestone spires rise from jade waters, creating one of the world’s most iconic seascapes.

Board your traditional wooden junk vessel for a magical overnight cruise. Explore hidden caves, kayak in secluded coves, or simply watch the changing light play across the karsts. Swim, relax on deck, and witness a magical sunset over the Gulf of Tonkin.

Overnight on board

Sunrise over the bay is a serene experience. Visit the spectacular Sung Sot (Surprise) Cave, one of Ha Long’s most impressive caverns. After brunch onboard, return to port and transfer to Hanoi Airport for your flight to Hue, Vietnam’s former imperial capital.

Overnight in Hue

Today’s ride unveils Hue’s regal past. Explore the Imperial Citadel, Forbidden Purple City, and royal museum before cycling along the Perfume River to the poetic Tomb of Tu Duc, nestled among pine trees and lotus ponds. Time permitting, visit Thien Mu Pagoda, Hue’s iconic symbol overlooking the river.

Overnight in Hue

Begin cycling on peaceful back roads through rice fields, village markets, and traditional crafts. After riding approximately 30 km, continue by vehicle to Lang Co Beach.

In the afternoon, conquer the legendary Hai Van Pass, a spectacular coastal climb offering panoramic ocean views—or opt for vehicle support. Descend toward ancient Hoi An, arriving in time for an evening stroll beneath glowing lanterns and a taste of the town’s famous Cao Lau noodles.

Overnight in Hoi An

Cycle leisurely through Hoi An’s rural hinterland, passing vegetable gardens, waterways, and farming villages. Later, explore the UNESCO-listed Ancient Town, where Chinese temples, Japanese bridges, and merchant houses reflect centuries of global trade. Try local dishes at roadside markets, visit artisans, or relax by the Thu Bon River.

Optional beach time at An Bang or Da Nang Beach.

Overnight in Hoi An

Take an optional morning cycling through quiet lanes before transferring to Chau O to begin your deeper journey into Central Vietnam’s rural heart. Ride past villages, smile at villagers in conical hats, and reach the peaceful My Lai Memorial Site, set among rice fields and farmland. Continue cycling or transfer to Quang Ngai depending on timing.

Overnight in Quang Ngai

Leave the coast behind and enter the Central Highlands, cycling along undulating roads through forests, rivers, and remote ethnic villages. The scenery becomes increasingly wild and untouched.

Overnight in Kon Tum

Cycle through coffee plantations, rubber estates, and minority villages en route to Buon Me Thuot, the heart of Vietnam’s coffee-growing region.

Overnight in Buon Me Thuot

Ride through rolling valleys and scenic highland roads toward Dalat, Vietnam’s romantic mountain retreat. Cool air, pine forests, flower famers and colonial villas signal a dramatic change in atmosphere.

Overnight in Dalat

Da Lat’s crisp air and whimsical architecture make it an ideal cycling exploration hub.  Ride to Bao Dai’s Summer Palace, the surreal Crazy House, Truc Lam Zen Monastery, Xuan Huong Lake, and colorful markets. Dalat’s temperate climate and French heritage offer a refreshing pause in the journey.

Overnight in Dalat

Enjoy a scenic descent from the cool highlands of Dalat to the tropical coast. Cycle along winding roads through pine forests, flower farms, and minority hamlets, taking in rolling valleys, waterfalls, and coffee plantations. As you approach the coast, the landscape shifts to lush lowlands and rice paddies, opening onto the sparkling turquoise waters and sandy beaches of Nha Trang—a perfect reward after your ride.

Overnight in Nha Trang

A rest day from cycling to enjoy the sun, sand, and sea of Nha Trang. Cruise by local boat to nearby islands, snorkel vibrant coral gardens, or visit a traditional fishing village.

Alternatively, explore Nha Trang’s temples, seaside promenades, and charming coastal streets at a leisurely pace.

Overnight in Nha Trang

Fly south to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s vibrant southern metropolis where colonial heritage and modern energy coexist. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided walking tour through the historic city center, visiting iconic landmarks including French colonial architecture, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Reunification Palace, and the thought-provoking War Remnants Museum—offering essential historical context to complement your cycling journey across Vietnam.

Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City

network used during the Vietnam War. Walking through this remarkable site offers profound insight into the resilience, ingenuity, and determination that shaped modern Vietnam—an important cultural counterpoint to the landscapes you have explored by bike.

En route, visit Thu Dau Mot Market, a lively local hub where produce, street food, and daily commerce reflect the rhythms of southern Vietnamese life. The contrast between bustling market scenes and the quiet forests of Cu Chi provides a deeper understanding of the country beyond the saddle.

Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City

Morning pick-up from your hotel for a private journey into the Mekong Delta. On arrival, enjoy a scenic boat cruise along the Mekong River, visiting the local fish wharf and the iconic four islands of Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle, and Phoenix.

On Unicorn Island, take a short xe loi (motorized rickshaw) ride through village lanes to visit a rice farm, coconut candy workshop, and honey bee farm, sampling honey tea and seasonal tropical fruits. Continue by traditional sampan through palm-shaded canals and mangrove forests, observing fishermen laying their traps.

Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon for a farewell dinner, marking the perfect conclusion to your Vietnam cycling journey.

Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City

After breakfast, enjoy a final leisurely morning in Ho Chi Minh City, reflecting on the extraordinary journey you’ve completed—from misty highlands and serene rivers to coastal panoramas and vibrant delta life. Transfer to the airport for your onward flight, taking with you unforgettable memories, stunning landscapes, and the warmth of Vietnam’s people.

As your adventure concludes, we hope the sights, flavors, and experiences inspire you to return for other Focus X Travel journeys, cycling further into the heart of Vietnam or exploring its neighboring treasures.
